LOGIC

13\9/17 This photo shows the 5 sounds I have chosen. classic electric piano brooklyn grand piano and strings solid clav focus 20/9/17 Today we met out teacher or music for the year. We learnt the basics of logic and was given an explanation of MIDI. MIDI stands for musical instrument digital interface, and it is a language that enables instruments talk to each other in binary code. The velocity of music can determine the emotion and dynamics of the music. We recorded s four bar loop and we used quantisation to improve timing errors, then we used velocity and the scissor tool. We did a four bar loop because western modern music is written in multiples of four so the dj can mix it easily and it makes scene to the listener. 27th september looked at percussion set a four bar loop tempo and metronome made 4\4 kick pattern with a snare on the 2 and 4 then added syncopated bats between the down beats and the upbeats 4th October 2017 Editing task https://soundcl...

TRIP- ALADDIN

Tuesday 20th March Today we was lucky enough to be taken on a trip to see Disney's Aladdin at the prince Edward theatre. I thought the show as a whole was brilliant and really portrayed the magic of the original story. However not flawless. The set design was amazing from extremely detailed pattered curtain at the beginning to the revolving huts to the magic carpet and LED starry night curtain and secret trap doors. The music from the live orchestra added to the atmosphere and made the theatre more alive. The dancing wasn't beautifully technical as such but worked very well with the space of the stage and fitted to the Arabian theme. The actor that played Aladdin really struggled to place his accent and fell somewhere between american, British and some kind of Italian or Spanish, it was confusing. The spot light was awful and very shaky and struggled to light the actor from head to toe. The costumes where amazing, they where colorful and revealing but correctly appropriate for...

UNIT 7- SELL YOURSELF

Unit 7 - Sell Yourself In tutorial we discussed the new 'sell yourself' project where we have to prepare 3 monologues or musical theater songs and perform them and market ourselves. My 3 pieces  my stimulus is 'want' 1. sally's monologue from buried child ; this was the safest option as i am very familiar with it and is the monologue I performed at my audition to enroll at this college. 2. Rita's speech at the union meeting, fighting for women's rights, from made in Dagenham.  This monologue was also a safe option but fits very nicely with the stimulus 3. Take me or leave me from rent.  this song is a duet between 2 lesbian characters Maureen and Joanne when they reach a dilemma in their relationship because of their differences. This song was a big risk however my tutor kept on telling me to take a bigger risk and stop performing things that are very safe and similar. T

UNIT 6- THE DUMB WAITER

Unit 6 - The Dumb Waiter 5/1/17     - In today's acting lesson we where working in the theater. We had an introduction to the new script work assignment. We where all given a script of 'The dumb waiter' and we read it through as a group taking turns to read aloud. The script, written by Harold Pinter, consists of 2 characters; Gus and Ben. Gus and Ben are two assassins waiting in the basement of a restaurant waiting for a call. The dialogue is the two characters chatting and wasting time. The status roles between the two characters are clear and I would say Gus has a very low status of 2/10 because of how forgetful, stupid, annoying and childish he can be. However, Ben has a higher status than Gus, and i know this because of how controlling, belittling, and clever Ben is compared to Gus. My personal opinion of the script is that theres a lot of context and the roles can be as big as you want to make them. I  partnered with Carla and given the part of Gus from page...

UNIT 4- ROMANTICISIM

Image
Romanticism evaluation Mya Howlett Our research on romanticism started with finding poetry, art work, music and theatre during the period (aprx. 1800-1850). We soon realised that most art and literature was inspired by strong emotions such as apprehension, terror and horror in coincidence of the celebration of nature imagination and beauty. You could say this spur of emotion provoking art was an effect of the industrial revolution. Romantic writers such as William Blake changed their writing style to focus on the inner world of emotions of the narrator, this style enabled the reader to empathize for the writer. This became very popular however was only effective if the writer had developed fine skills. We also learned about 'romanticism today' in contextual studies. We looked at vouge and other fashion modelling shoots and commercials. There was themes of flowers and frills, and nude and pastel colours. This helped me to design make up ideas that are modern but authenti...

UNIT 3- silent movie project

Image
Unit 3- Silent Movie Project  3\11\16 We started the lesson with an introduction to a the new assignment (The silent movie project). My initial thoughts of this project is that it is going to be very difficult as we are not allowed to talk or use dialogue to develop a story, and the acting has to be over the top almost in the style of 'commedia dell arte' instead of being naturalistic. That is why being self conscious and caring about what people think will not make you successful in this project. Then we continued to do a isolation exercise this warm up was well suited to the workshop as it made us conscious of our bodies and really helped me to focus on each body part at a time. After this we carried on to do a mime technique exercise where we had to mime an iron bar. During this exercise as an actor I found it useful to imagine the bar was actually there, for this I recalled techniques from Stanislavsky's sense memory strategy, that I have briefly stud...

UNIT 2- induction performances

Monday 9th October Today we started tech-ing the dance show. It was good to finally get productive and hands on. I think the lighting and sound for the show was creative and interesting because it added to the emotion of the music and dance. It was fun to spend the day in the theater and be given the chance to work as a proper tech crew. During the process i learned how to fade lights in and out and recognize cues. The dancers where co-operative and i think the collaboration between the courses was positive. Tuesday 10th October  Today was the day of the show and i was proud everything went well. I learned how the sound and light technicians had to cue each other so the lights come up or down and the music fades out or in. Monday 11th September 2017 Today we was in the drama studio with the level 3 year 1 students. We started with some simple activities to get to know each other. We then done a few improvisation activities eg. '1,2,3' 'yes lets and then'. ...

UNIT 1- COSTUME DESIGN PROJECT

I have chosen to write my essay about the role of a costume designer. The costume designers job is extremely important as they ensure that all the actors look like the character they are playing. this adds to the magic of the theater and makes the shows more believable and more appealing to the eye.  Costumes can be hand made or rented or bought.  Being a costume designer requires a lot of skills, including being able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, having knowledge about historic costumes and modern fashions, being able to budget and an eye for detail. This means it takes a very creative, gifted and experienced person to take up this role. A good costume designer will have skills in arts and crafts and textiles, and should be able to sew.  A costume designer earns between £13,000 and £35,000 per year. They will work closely alongside the director and will help to make their visions come to life while still thinking about the practicality and durability o...
