Today we met out teacher or music for the year. We learnt the basics of logic and was given an explanation of MIDI. MIDI stands for musical instrument digital interface, and it is a language that enables instruments talk to each other in binary code. The velocity of music can determine the emotion and dynamics of the music. We recorded s four bar loop and we used quantisation to improve timing errors, then we used velocity and the scissor tool. We did a four bar loop because western modern music is written in multiples of four so the dj can mix it easily and it makes scene to the listener.

Today we was given a track that we had to change the velocity and quantise. I also recorded my own bass line and then duplicated all the instruments into a 16 bar loop. We then bounced the logic document into an mp3 music file then uploaded it onto sound cloud (link above).

I added a new bass line and changed the dynamics of the notes to make the music evoke emotion.
Midi stands for musical instrument digital interface, it is a language that instruments use to communicate with other instruments.
Quantising is fixing the timing mistakes that make it more suitable for the genre. It is measured in divisions of a bar.
Swing is the human feel of the performance.
In logic we have the swing and quantised tools that effect the emotion of the music.
Velocity is how softly or firmly the notes are played and adds dynamics.

hits are one sharp sound
loops have tempo info built into them meaning you cant stretch them
looked at editing the audio using scissor tools and the loop and resize function.
These types of audio processing are non destructive
we cut resized made smaller and longer our loops
tried to stretch the loops (slow down) but it didnt work unless it was a midi file
transient

keeping it intime with how the transient laid on the grid
bounced the audio file in place which resampled it and allowed us to have our own version of it
using effects to audio makes it sound origianal
we made the audio file half time by stretching it double the length
we resampled the loop again into the exs 24 sampler by right clicking on the file and converted it into a new sampler track by transient markers.
This allowed us to rearrange it into our own drum beats.
next weeks task is to find two songs that you would like to sample
1 for the drum beats
1 for melody
one new and one old.
